Matt's Place...
a place where teens can live out loud!

The Mission
To reach and serve the youth of our community by encouraging connections with each other, caring adults, and God.

The Vision
A place where youth connect.

The Inspiration
Throughout the Gospels, we see Jesus inviting people to follow Him – to become fishers of men in response to God’s love for us.

Jesus’ invitation often took place in an atmosphere of celebration, fun and friendship at dinners and parties in people’s homes. On one such occasion when Jesus had dinner at the apostle Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and “sinners” came to the party. When criticized by the Pharisees for associating with people from all walks of life, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” Matthew 9:12-13

It is in the spirit of reaching out to people from all walks of life that we are attempting something great for God. We are attempting to build “Matt’s Place” -– a place where teens can invite their friends and introduce them to the love of Jesus Christ in an atmosphere of celebration, fun, and friendship.

Just as Jesus used the apostle Matthew’s house to reach people, our teens will have the opportunity to reach their friends and invite them to a place, not where they will be changed, but where change can take place.

While Matt’s Place is inspired by the Holy Spirit, it is prompted by the desire to remember the life of Matthew Steven Bertolaccini , a caring, fun-loving, athletic, and joyful Christian teenager who loved God, his family, and friends. Matt enjoyed playing Calvert County youth league basketball and soccer and loved just hanging out with his buddies. His life was cut short at age 13 by a tragic accident on March 11, 2004. Matt’s family and friends wish to perpetuate the spirit of his faith and compassion for others by dedicating Matt’s Place at Chesapeake Church to the youth of our Southern Maryland community.

The Connection
Matt’s Place is all about:

  • Connecting youth with each other through sports, the arts, and social activities
  • Connecting youth with adults through mentoring relationships, after school tutoring and other activities
  • Connecting youth with God through the Chesapeake Church Peake Youth ministry

If you would like to donate to Matt's Place, we appreciate your generous spirit.
